There’s plenty of chocolate goodies on the horizon this Easter, with the Easter Bunny just days away from paying us all a visit bearing plenty of treats. 

As fellow chocolate lovers, we know how hard it is to stick to a healthy regime during this time of the year, especially when the holidays bring mouth-watering food, family traditions and never-ending amounts of, yes, chocolate!

Sometimes it's just easier to indulge and binge on chocolate while cooking up a storm for our family and spending quality time with the kids at home, all while wrapped up in your fluffy pink bathrobe complete with matching pink slippers. We all know the Easter drill when the kids are asking if they can snack on their Easter eggs, while we are dreaming about dipping fruit into a chocolate fountain. 

Don't put down that chocolate just yet because we've found a smoothie so good, you can put it into your Easter basket and hop away with it. Plus it’s great for the kids to enjoy, all while getting their Easter fix (and plenty of calcium and protein).

Ingredients: 

A whole banana, sliced
A scoop of your favourite chocolate protein powder or cacao powder. (You can get some great chocolate powder just for the kids.)
1/4 cup of blueberries
A handful of spinach
A teaspoon of chia seeds
A tablespoon of peanut butter (substitute this for a tablespoon of nut butter or soy butter or a 1/4 cup of chickpeas if your little one can't have peanut butter or nuts.)
Your favourite milk

Cacao Powder - Filled with flavonoids and fibre.

Blueberries - High in nutrients, iron, calcium and antioxidants.  

Spinach - Vitamin C and K, folic acid, iron and calcium.

Chia Seeds - Loaded with antioxidants, Omega- 3 fatty acids, protein and high fibre.

Peanut Butter - A great source of protein and vitamin B-6.

Chickpeas - Don't just associate this with savoury foods, these legumes contain plenty of fibre and protein. 

You, and the kids, won't worry about snacking when this smoothie is around.
